We are still having so much fun learning all about ocean life. So much, in fact, that we're going to have to continue it next week because we didn't get everything done! It seems like when this time of year gets here, it is so hard to fit everything in and to keep any sense of a routine. However, in between FAIR testing, county testing, field days, field trips, and more, we're still planning on having a great May! Here's more of what we did this week:

Thank you to everyone who has purchased my Spring Fever and Over in the Ocean packs. If you did buy either one of these, please re-download them from your purchases folder on Teachers Pay Teachers. There was a mistake on the recording page for the flower measurement in the Spring pack (which just got noticed today when some of my teammates printed it out and I freaked out when I saw it!), so I have uploaded a new page. Also, someone asked for the common core standards for my ocean unit and I have gone back and added these to each center. Thanks so much again and if there's anything you guys would like to see for this year or that I could work on for next year, let me know :).

Today, we read A House For Hermit Crab. After reading, we talked a lot about the hermit crab's home and about shells we see on the beach close to where we live. This past weekend, I collected some shells for our class at the beach, and this morning, each child got to pick their own. After we picked our shells, we worked together to create a describing words chart for shells. Then, we each wrote about our shells. The kids' writing turned out really cute.

I am so proud of this sweetie! When he came in October, he knew hardly any letters and today he wrote this!

We also started some new math centers today and as usual, the kids were super excited.
Working on place value with numbers 10-20

In my ocean pack, I have lots of ways you can use these cards, but I have 2 sweeties who are still working on numbers to 10, so they used them to play a matching game today.

Finding missing numbers on a number line

Practicing addition to 10

Practicing subtraction within 10

You can get these math centers (plus more) and lots of literacy centers here in my ocean pack. Hope you all are having a great week!
We have been busy, busy, busy getting into our ocean unit, and we are having so much fun!

I'm off to work on things for the rest of this week...I feel like I have so much to get in, especially since we have testing next week (ugh!). Our county decided that since K-2 doesn't take the FCAT (our state standardized test), that we needed to join in the fun, so they created their own standardized test for us...aren't you jealous?

Yesterday was our field trip to Gulf World and we had so much fun, but we were EX-HAUSTED by the end of the day (just imagine a late bus that then got lost and then rain).
This is how they fell asleep on the way home!
The trip was a great way to kick off our ocean unit! Today, we came back and discussed the animals we saw, then we sorted animals as a group to see if they live in the ocean or if they do not. The kids also made a smaller version to take home.

This activity can be found in my Over in the Ocean pack that I just posted to TpT. You can click on the picture to see what else you will get. Since I finished this late at night, I would love 2 people to check it out and tell me what they think (and if they see any mistakes!). I'll pick 2 people to send the file to tonight at 8:00. Just follow my blog and leave me a comment. Easy, right? Thanks Jennifer and Heather!

You can get the Charlie writing paper here. We have our field trip to Gulf World tomorrow, so I will be in the bed EARLY! Hope your week is going well!

Hadar, over at Miss Kindergarten, had the great idea to have a tax break sale! Thanks for sharing the great idea Hadar. You can click on the picture to go to my TpT store and catch the great sale :)

I am trying to work on my ocean pack this weekend and get it finished before school on Monday. It seems like the week is so busy and I never to get to work on thing after school as much as I would like. We are going on a field trip to Gulf World this week to start our ocean unit, so I need to get busy making my centers! For those of you who have purchased my packs before or for those of you who might need some ocean themed activities, anything in particular your kiddos are working on right now or anything they're struggling with that you would like to see included in the pack? Of course, I'll be including some blend and digraph practice, word stretching, word family work, and addition and subtraction, but I would appreciate suggestions so much!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!! I can't believe how fast the school year is flying by!

You can get the literacy centers here and here. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Also, be sure to check out my friend Deeanna's bug pack here...it has lots of the math centers I posted about yesterday and lots of literacy centers we're doing this week.
We started our insect unit today and we are already having so much fun! The centers below can be found in my Spring Fever pack here or in my friend Deeanna's bug pack that she is going to have posted soon...I'll link to it as soon as it is! (Don't you just love my kiddos feeling the need to be in their center picture!)

You can get the math prompt here and the diagram page here. Hope everyone had a great Monday!

{Don't forget, if you want to download from google docs, the file is already shared...go to the left hand side, click file then download :) }

I hope all of you have a happy, blessed Easter weekend with your family. My family has so much to be thankful for and Easter is a great reminder of how much God has truly blessed us, especially this past year.

I'll be back next week with some insect fun...can't wait!
We are busy doing lots of Easter activities and we are sooo excited for our Easter egg hunt and ice cream party Friday!

Let me begin by saying it was not easy getting up to the sound of my alarm this morning! Spring break went by soooo fast! I did get to celebrate with one of my best college friends at her wedding as well as catch up with some of my other best friends {it's rare that we're all in the same place!}. Ignore my closed eyes below in the first picture and speaking of pictures, don't you just love photo booths at weddings?

Although I was dreading getting up this morning, we actually had a really good day!
I posted a new freebie last night to TpT to help my high group that is working on vowel patterns. It's a literacy center that has the children differentiate between long and short vowel sounds. If you download it, let me know what you think :).
Also, if you are still in need of some Easter or Spring centers {we're still using my Easter pack this week...the kids are loving it!}, I would love for you to take a look at my packs on TpT :).
